Following the footprints in the snow…
While we were out on our hike, we walked across a field with cows in it. Scotland has unusually loose laws regarding trespassing. Anyway, the cows were pretty skittish. I think this one thought he was hiding behind the trees. 🙂

We’re back home in Scotland and everyone is off for winter break. (Yes, even Andrea). We took a day trip up to the Highlands and went for a hike on a big hill. The sun stays very low at this time of year. So, this side of the hill probably won’t see any sun for months. We were a little unprepared for how cold and windy it would be. But, we did see a deer and some beautiful scenery.

St. Machar’s is a cathedral from the 1100’s named after a Celtic Saint. I visited it while touring around as part of Scott Kelby’s World Wide Photo Walk. The Heraldic Ceiling is made of Oak and has 48 shields representing various important people. Today, a jazz band was holding rehearsal.
Are you up for a guessing game? See if you can guess what this is. Here’s a hint. They are not memorials. These concrete posts were built for a purpose – but what?
Until someone gets it, I’ll give more hints on my Google Plus page (http://goo.gl/Mrrdyb).
Well, we are back at home in Scotland. Maybe in need of a cleansing of the palette.
On a foggy morning, I went out along a Northern coast. Here, the cows graze on steep hills and seem unfazed by the chill morning fog.

Ok, that’s enough from The Netherlands. Here’s one quick shot back at home in Scotland before the next trip.
Crathes Castle has a flower garden that is so beautiful when it bloomes in the summer.

This is the Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh, Scotland. The Queen stays here for a week in the summers. It’s a pretty palace with lots of old history. Visitors get a nice audio tour that mostly kept the little ones entertained (no inside pictures allowed).

Scotland is the only place I can remember where the floor of the deep forest will be covered with grass and moss. It’s often quite wet here.

Aberdeen is known as Granite City or Grey City. There used to be a large granite quarry here and so all the older buildings are made of granite. These are sure to last!
